About
Emily Fuller serves as Research and Practice Convenor and Acting Widening Participation Program Manager at the Centre of Excellence for Equity in Higher Education, University of Newcastle. With nearly a decade in Queensland and New South Wales' Out of Home Care (OOHC) sector, she leads the Live, Learn, Grow program supporting care-experienced university students and the Children’s University Newcastle initiative.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Queensland, building her career from Youth Worker and Case Work Manager roles at Catholic Care where she developed care plans and supported transitions to independent living.
Her research centers on equity barriers for care leavers in higher education—including financial instability, lack of social support, and accommodation challenges—advocating for their recognition as an equity group. Through community partnerships, she develops evidence-based practices to improve educational access.
Her publications reveal consistent focus on care-leaver experiences using critical theory and autoethnography, emphasizing navigator roles and relational pedagogy to overcome participation barriers.
No scientific awards are documented, though her program leadership demonstrates significant field contributions.
Fuller manages widening participation programs, coordinating teams and community agencies to deliver campus events, professional workshops, and learning pathways that bridge OOHC services with higher education access for underrepresented youth.
