About
Dr. Emily Flashman is Associate Professor of Molecular Plant Science and Section Director of Graduate Studies at the University of Oxford. Her research group engineers plant enzymes to enhance stress resilience and productivity in crops. The team focuses on oxygen-sensing enzymes called Plant Cysteine Oxidases (PCOs) that regulate plant responses to flooding stress.
Using structural biology and biochemical approaches, they manipulate PCO activity to prolong plant survival during hypoxia. This work aims to develop flood-tolerant crops through targeted enzyme engineering of stress signaling pathways.
