Emily D. Gerstein, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychological Sciences at the University of Missouri–St. Louis, affiliated with the College of Arts and Sciences. As Associate Department Chair and director of the Families and Children Together (FACT) Lab, her research focuses on developmental psychopathology, family systems, and risk/resilience processes in children with early-identified risk factors such as prematurity, developmental delays, and socioeconomic adversity.
Her work examines: (1) how early risk impacts parental stress, parenting processes, parent-child relationships, and family interactions; (2) effects on child social-emotional development and comorbid psychopathology; (3) cross-cultural differences in parenting and family conceptualizations; and (4) observational methods for studying family dynamics from parenthood transitions to elementary school entry. She currently serves in leadership as Associate Department Chair.
