Emily Bruce is an Assistant Professor at the University of Vermont’s Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine, Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics. Her research focuses on virology and cell biology, particularly the late stages of RNA viral assembly and replication for SARS-CoV-2 and influenza.
- Studied Rab11 trafficking pathway in influenza virus assembly at University of Cambridge (PhD in Virology)
- Postdoctoral research on bunyavirus entry/egress at University of Pennsylvania and arenavirus infection factors at UVM
- Joined UVM faculty in 2021
The Bruce Lab, affiliated with the Translational Global Infectious Disease Research (TGIR) COBRE at UVM, investigates:
- Regulation of coronavirus nucleocapsid functions during replication
- Influenza genome transport mechanisms influencing reassortment
- Laboratory members include undergraduate, graduate, and technician staff
