Emilio Alberto Parrado

Emilio Alberto Parrado is the Dorothy Swaine Thomas Professor of Sociology and Director of the Population Studies Center at the University of Pennsylvania. His research focuses on migration, its intersection with demographic processes, and social change in Latin America.

Research interests include:

• Immigrant adaptation among Hispanic populations in the U.S.
• Health and family outcomes in international migration
• Social mobility and family behavior in Latin America

He combines quantitative and qualitative methods, utilizing surveys, ethnographic data, and advanced statistical techniques. Recent work examines gender dynamics and health risks among Mexican and Honduran migrants.

Scientific honors include the Dorothy Swaine Thomas Professorship, a distinguished named chair at the University of Pennsylvania.
