Emile Tompa is a senior scientist at the Institute for Work & Health and holds academic appointments as Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at McMaster University and Assistant Professor at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto. He co-directs the Centre for Research on Work Disability Policy (CRWDP) and contributes to the Journal of Occupational Rehabilitation as an editorial board member.

His research spans work disability policy, economic evaluation of workplace interventions, and the impact of accessibility standards on labor markets. Recent work includes estimating the $17.6 billion economic benefit of inclusive employment in Canada and developing the EU-OSHA framework for assessing occupational disease costs across Europe.
Dr. Tompa's publications focus on occupational health economics, disability management systems, and financial incentives for inclusive hiring. He contributed to the Accessible Canada Act and currently leads the Inclusive Design for Employment Access (IDEA) social innovation lab, funded by a $9M New Frontiers in Research grant.
His teaching includes Economic Evaluation of Public Health Initiatives at Dalla Lana School (2018–present) and Advanced Topics in Health Economics at McMaster (2002–2017, 2020–present). He previously mentored trainees in the CIHR Strategic Training Program (2009–2015).
