Emanuel Rognoni

Dr. Emanuel Rognoni is a Lecturer at the Centre for Cell Biology and Cutaneous Research within the Blizard Institute, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at Queen Mary University of London. He joined Queen Mary in 2019 as a Lecturer in the Centre of Endocrinology and transitioned to his current position in 2022. His research focuses on dermal fibroblast biology and mechanisms of skin repair.

Dr. Rognoni's research centers on the role of dermal fibroblasts in skin development, homeostasis, and wound healing. He investigates how fibroblast lineages are specified and maintained throughout life, the regulation by immune cells, and the pathogenic processes in skin diseases such as fibrosis and cancer. His lab employs a multidisciplinary approach combining genome-wide screening, proteomics, in silico analysis, in vivo imaging, and lineage tracing to elucidate fundamental mechanisms of fibroblast identity and plasticity.

Analysis of his recent publications (2014-2021) reveals a consistent trajectory in understanding fibroblast behavior in skin development and repair. Key themes include fibroblast state switching, extracellular matrix dynamics, and immune-fibroblast crosstalk, with implications for treating fibrosis and chronic wounds.
