About
Else Werring is a Doctoral Research Fellow at the University of Oslo's Department of Literature, Area Studies and European Languages, within the Faculty of Humanities. Her research focuses on intersections of literary theory, feminist philosophy, and maternal temporality. She holds degrees from UiO, University College London (MA in Philosophy), and the London School of Economics (B.Sc. in International Relations).
Her academic interests include maternal narratives, psychoanalytic feminism, queer theory, continental philosophy, and rhythmanalysis. Current projects examine maternal temporality in Jeanette Winterson and Rachel Cusk through a matricentric lens.
- PhD Project: 'Weaving, Bathing, Birthing: Rhythmic Meditations on (M)otherhood in Jeanette Winterson and Rachel Cusk.'
- Supervisors: Bruce Barnhart (UiO), Fanny Söderbäck (Södertörn University).
Werring is affiliated with research groups Aesthetics and Politics and Temporal Experiments, exploring literary and philosophical engagements with time. Her work critiques 'matricidal' cultural norms and re-centers the maternal through rhythmic analysis of literary form.
