Dr. Elsa Petit is a Senior Lecturer and Coordinator in French Language Studies at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), serving as STA Co-Director of Recruitment Strategy for undergraduate, postgraduate taught, and foundation programs. She also coordinates French Language Development Grants. Previously, she held roles at the Universities of Leeds, Royal Holloway, King's College London, and QMUL itself, including External Examiner positions at multiple institutions. She earned a Licence (BA equivalent) in English Language/Literature and FLE from the University of Lille III, Nord, France, followed by a Maîtrise (MA) in Linguistics and a PhD in Sociolinguistics from QMUL.
Her research focuses on sociolinguistics, gender/culture/identity in language, spoken language analysis, French linguistics, and technology-enhanced language teaching. She has pioneered modules on digital literacy, intercultural communication, and language policy. Her work integrates ethnographic methods, sociometric diagrams, and corpus-based studies.
