Dr. Elliot L. Botvinick is a Professor with dual appointments in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Department of Surgery at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine. He founded the Bio-Engineering Advanced Medical Solutions (BEAMS) Laboratory at UCI in 2007, which maintains research facilities at the Beckman Laser Institute and Clinic, the Convergence Optical Science Initiative in Applied Innovation, and the Edwards Lifesciences Center for Advanced Cardiovascular Technology.
Dr. Botvinick's research program focuses on mechanobiology and medical device development using biophotonic theory and technology. His work spans several critical areas including sensing the physical environment within engineered systems, diabetes management technologies, interstitial analyte sensing for disease detection and treatment, vascularization strategies for tissue engineering, and advanced optical techniques for cellular and tissue analysis.
