Dr Ellie Edlmann is an Associate Professor in Neurosurgery and Consultant Neurosurgeon at the University of Plymouth's Peninsula Medical School (Faculty of Health). She holds a clinical role at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust with specialties in brain tumors, awake surgery, traumatic brain injuries, and general neurosurgery including spine surgery. Her academic work focuses on neurosurgical patient research, clinical trials, and outcomes in older adults using AI.
She leads major trials such as the Dex-CSDH trial for Chronic Subdural Haematoma, the DENS trial for neck fractures in older patients, and co-leads the RESTART-tICH trial. As national neurosurgery lead for the ROSSINI-Platform trial, she addresses surgical site infections. Her brain tumor research includes collaborations with oncologists and psychologists, while her head injury work employs AI to predict outcomes via the SUSTAIN southwest collaborative. She contributes to the ICENI national working group for Chronic Subdural Haematoma guidelines.
