Ellen Tremper is a Professor and Chairwoman of the Department of English at Brooklyn College, City University of New York, affiliated with the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. She joined the institution in 1971 and has led the department since 2000. Her educational background includes an A.B. in English from Cornell University (1963), and M.A. (1965) and Ph.D. (1969) in English and American Literature from Harvard University.
Her research explores intersections of literature, film, and cultural studies, particularly the representation of blondes in fiction and media. This is exemplified in her book I'm No Angel: The Blonde in Fiction and Film, which received the Emily Toth Award.
Awards and honors include:
