Ellen Lockard Edens

Ellen Lockard Edens is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine, affiliated with the Yale School of Medicine's Psychiatry department. She holds leadership roles as Associate Director of the Addiction Psychiatry Residency Program and Co-Director of VA interprofessional fellowships in Connecticut. Her clinical work focuses on substance-related disorders, including leading the VA Opioid Reassessment Clinic. Dr. Edens completed her MD at Johns Hopkins (2002), residency at Washington University (2006), and advanced training in Addiction Psychiatry at Yale (2009). She earned a Master's in Psychiatric Epidemiology (2007) and has been a Yale faculty member since 2011.

Her research emphasizes improving SRAD (Substance-related and Addictive Disorders) education and expanding treatment access. Notable contributions include co-creating the Coursera course 'Addiction Treatment: Clinical Skills for Healthcare Providers' and developing clinical guidelines for opioid use in chronic pain. She actively participates in VA initiatives and interdisciplinary collaborations, publishing on topics like opioid stewardship and pain management interfaces with addiction.
