About
Ellen Foley is Professor in Sustainability and Social Justice at Clark University, specializing in medical anthropology with regional expertise in sub-Saharan Africa. Her research examines how global, national, and local social forces interact with gender, class, and generational hierarchies to shape health vulnerabilities and access to care, particularly in sexual and reproductive health domains.
Her current scholarship investigates population control discourses, contraceptive technologies, and feminist responses to demographic policies. She maintains research partnerships in Senegal, where she studies the lived experience of illness and household-level gender dynamics in resource-constrained environments.
