Ellen Cole Lee is a Teaching Assistant Professor and Languages Program Coordinator at the University of Pittsburgh's Department of Classics, part of the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences. She joined Pitt's faculty in Fall 2019 as a Lecturer and Latin Program Coordinator. Her roles also include serving as the College in High School Latin Faculty Liaison and Faculty Advisor to Eta Sigma Phi.
- Education: PhD in Classical Studies (University of Michigan, 2016), Graduate Certificate in Medieval and Early Modern Studies (2016), B.A. in Classics and English (University of Texas at Austin, 2008).
Her research focuses on cognitive approaches to the ancient world, gender/sexuality in Latin literature, and classical reception across eras. She actively explores Latin pedagogy and medieval Latin poetry. Her dissertation addressed Latin love poetry, and she has participated in specialized programs like the American Academy in Rome's Classical Summer School (2012) and the Medieval Institute's Latin Summer Program (2007).
- Advising & Engagement: Leads Eta Sigma Phi and advises the Latin Program. Engages in curriculum development and high school outreach through her liaison role.
