Ella August

Ella August, PhD, is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, and Editor-in-Chief of PREPSS (Pre-Publication Support Service), which supports researchers globally in publishing peer-reviewed work. She specializes in teaching academic writing in public health, research capacity building, and global health equity. Her work with PREPSS has impacted researchers across Africa, Asia, and the Americas.

Educated at the University of Illinois at Chicago (PhD in Epidemiology), Eastern Michigan University (MA in Written Communication), and Michigan State University (BA in English), she bridges public health practice with effective communication. Her research focuses on improving writing pedagogy and addressing systemic barriers in academic publishing.

Dr. August teaches courses such as Public Health Communication with Diverse Audiences and Real-World Writing Project, emphasizing practical skills for students. Her publications address peer review training, technology in writing, and global health equity definitions. Her contributions to curriculum design and mentorship programs strengthen research ecosystems worldwide.
