Elizabeth J. Wood is a Lecturer in the Department of History at Christopher Newport University (CNU). She teaches courses including Early American History, African American History, Gender and Sexuality in the American South, and Comparative Slavery. Her research focuses on southern free people of color between the American Revolution and Civil War, examining how they navigated freedom in a racist, patriarchal society.
