Dr. Elizabeth Podnieks is a Professor in the Department of English at Toronto Metropolitan University. Her research focuses on maternal modernism, life writing, women’s literatures, and representations of parenthood in popular culture.

Her scholarship examines intersections of modernist literature and motherhood studies, with a special interest in memoirs, diaries, and gendered narratives. She has edited critical editions of modernist diaries and contributed to journals like a/b: Auto/Biography Studies and Life Writing.
Podnieks has collaborated on projects such as the Palgrave Handbook on Parenthood in Popular Culture and the Routledge Companion to Motherhood. She founded the Popular Culture Association’s Area on Motherhood/Fatherhood and is affiliated with the International Association of Maternal Action and Scholarship (IAMAS).
