Elizabeth Lowry is a novelist, critic, and Research Fellow at the University of Oxford's Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages. Holding a BA from Rhodes University and a DPhil from Oxford, she specializes in English literature from 1820 to the present, with a focus on the novel form, Gothic fiction, and psychological narratives.
Her literary works include Dark Water (2018), longlisted for the Walter Scott Prize and Historical Writers' Association Gold Crown Award, and The Chosen (2022), shortlisted for both prizes. She contributes regularly to major publications like the Times Literary Supplement and London Review of Books, writing on topics ranging from Henry James to the history of boredom.
As a Royal Literary Fund Fellow, she analyzes literature through interdisciplinary lenses including sociology and philosophy. Current projects include a novel exploring Joan of Arc's final days.
