Elizabeth Kuti

Elizabeth Kuti is Professor in the Department of Literature Film and Theatre Studies at the University of Essex. She holds a BA from Oxford, PhD from Trinity College Dublin, and MA from King's College London/RADA. Previously Head of Department (2017-2021), her career spans playwriting, acting, and academic research.

Research explores contemporary drama, gender in literature, theatre history, radio drama, and folklore adaptations. Notable creative methodologies include heritage site performances and intergenerational narrative exchanges.

Publications reflect consistent focus on historical reinterpretation, feminist perspectives, and folklore adaptation. Recent works demonstrate increased engagement with museum theatre and global conflict narratives.
