Elizabeth Hoag

Elizabeth Hoag is a Teaching Professor at the Cleveland Institute of Art (CIA), specializing in Liberal Arts. With nearly 30 years of professional experience, she focuses on archaeology and anthropology, particularly gender studies in archaeology and innovative pedagogical strategies. She teaches courses on gender, urban anthropology, human evolution, and Indigenous cultures of the Americas.

Education: Master of Arts in Anthropology (University of Cincinnati), PhD Candidate (SUNY Albany).

Research Interests: Gender and motherhood in archaeological fieldwork; experiential learning methodologies in natural and social sciences. Recent work includes co-authoring Experiential Learning and High-Impact Practices.

Professional Affiliations: President of the Ohio Archaeological Council, Board Member of the Cleveland Archaeological Society, Archaeological Advisor to the Shaker Historical Society.

Recent Work: Collaborated on a ceramic kiln project in Veracruz, Mexico, showcased in CIA's 2024 Faculty Exhibition.
