Elizabeth Callaway is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English at the University of Utah. She holds a BA in English Literature and Biological Sciences from Stanford University (2007) and a PhD in English from the University of California, Santa Barbara (2016). Prior to her current role, she served as a Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of Utah's Digital Matters Lab and Environmental Humanities Graduate Program from 2017–2019.
Her research bridges environmental humanities, digital humanities, and climate change studies. Key areas include climate fiction, speculative ecosystems in science fiction, and the ethical dimensions of scientific communication. She has pioneered work on AI in humanities education, receiving grants such as the National Endowment for the Humanities' 'Humanities Perspectives on Artificial Intelligence' (2024–2025). Her award-winning projects include curriculum design for AI in language arts classrooms and responsible AI pedagogy.
