Elizabeth Beam is an Associate Professor at the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing, where she serves as Director of Global Health and HEROES Program Director. Her research focuses on healthcare worker safety and infection control training.
She holds a BSN, MSN, and PhD from UNMC. Dr. Beam developed the personal protective equipment ensemble used during the 2014 Ebola virus disease treatment in the United States.
Research examines human factors in infection control, respiratory protection effectiveness, and educational interventions for healthcare worker safety. Current projects include developing ruggedized powered air-purifying respirators for austere conditions.
Recent publications analyze physiological impacts of PPE during extended use and simulation-based training methodologies. Her work contributes to improved safety protocols for high-consequence infectious diseases.
