Elise Toedt teaches writing composition and education courses at the University of Minnesota's College of Liberal Arts. Her background includes eight years teaching secondary English in urban U.S. schools and Java, Indonesia. She holds a PhD in Literacy, Language, & Culture (2022) and MA in Critical Literacy Education (2019) from the University of Minnesota.
Research examines how embodied teacher experiences can motivate resistance to institutional norms through critical creative writing practices. Current projects investigate whiteness in education systems, feminist research methodologies, and social justice pedagogy.
Creative scholarship includes poetic inquiries into teacher experiences and educational systems. Recent publications analyze the spatial politics of whiteness in teacher education and document teachers' workplace experiences through innovative poetic forms.
