Elisa Cornish

Elisa Cornish is an Associate Professor and Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney's Faculty of Medicine and Health. She holds roles as a Staff Specialist at Sydney Eye Hospital and Westmead Hospital, and serves as the Study Coordinator for Ophthalmic Physiology (OPSC5002) and a member of the Master of Medicine (Ophthalmic Sci) Examiner Board. Her research focuses on Medical Retina, Inherited Retinal Dystrophies, Uveitis, and Diabetic Retinopathy, with interests in Obesity, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Disease, and Immunological Conditions.

Dr. Cornish completed her BMedSci(Hons1), MBBS, GradDipMed(OphthalSci), and PhD at the University of Sydney, with postgraduate training in Ophthalmology and clinical fellowships in Uveitis and Medical Retina. She has conducted international training at Moorfields Eye Hospital and Luigi Sacco Hospital.

Her research emphasizes clinical trials and multimodal imaging in retinal disorders. Notable awards include the ORIA Priming Grant (2021) and RANZCO Fellowship Scholarship (2019). She actively contributes to teaching, supervision of clinical registrars, and has mentored students like Marium RAZA on projects involving inherited retinal dystrophies.

Recent publications span inflammatory choroidal neovascularization treatments, KCNV2-associated retinopathy, and management of retinal vein occlusion. Her work addresses translational challenges in retinal disease diagnostics and therapeutics, leveraging electrophysiology and genetic biomarkers.
