About
Elisa Ardizzoni is a researcher in Mycobacteriology at the University of Antwerp, Belgium. Her work focuses on drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB), diagnostic methods, and antimicrobial resistance mechanisms. She holds a Master's degree and completed her doctoral dissertation in 2023 titled 'Improved diagnosis of drug-resistant tuberculosis: from implementation of simple phenotypic testing to whole genome sequencing.' Ardizzoni actively collaborates on international projects such as the THREE-G initiative and the TB/NTM Cluster, funded by Research Fund - Flanders and Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). Her research spans clinical trials for novel TB treatments, bedaquiline susceptibility testing, and genomic analysis of drug-resistant pathogens. She has contributed to over 20 peer-reviewed publications since 2012, with recent work emphasizing global health interventions and diagnostic innovation.
Projects (Selected):
- THREE-G: Investigates evolutionary pathways of extensively drug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis (2025–2028)
- EndTB-Q: Evaluates new drug regimens for fluoroquinolone-resistant MDR-TB (2020–2025)
- TB/NTM Cluster: Advances diagnostic and treatment strategies for tuberculosis and nontuberculous mycobacteria (2022–2026)
Grants & Collaborations:
- Research Fund - Flanders
- MSF France/The Netherlands
- Global clinical networks in Armenia, Afghanistan, and Kenya
Research Focus: Development of rapid diagnostic tools, optimization of drug susceptibility testing, and clinical evaluation of novel TB therapies targeting multidrug-resistant strains. Her work bridges laboratory research with real-world applications in resource-limited settings.
