Eliot Raynor is a Lecturer in Spanish and Portuguese at Princeton University. He holds a Ph.D. candidacy in Hispanic Linguistics from Indiana University (2019), an M.A. in Spanish from the University of South Carolina, and a B.A. in Linguistics and Spanish from UNC-Chapel Hill.
His research focuses on languages and histories of northwestern Colombia during the 16th-18th centuries, particularly examining how speakers of Amerindian and West African languages influenced the development of highland Spanish varieties. He co-authored research on Amerindian and African agency in the emergence of Colombian and Bolivian Spanish varieties.
In teaching, Raynor has partnered with Colombian universities for virtual language exchanges and has professional experience in ESL instruction and bilingual counseling.
