Eliot Quataert is a Professor of Astronomy and Physics at UC Berkeley, where he directs the Theoretical Astrophysics Center. He received his B.S. in Physics from MIT (1995) and Ph.D. in Astronomy from Harvard University (1999), followed by postdoctoral work at the Institute for Advanced Study.
His research focuses on compact objects, galaxy formation, and high-energy astrophysics. He has made significant contributions to understanding black hole accretion, galactic winds, and plasma astrophysics through collaborations including the FIRE galaxy formation simulations and the Dedalus project.
Quataert teaches a wide range of astrophysics courses, from introductory classes to specialized graduate topics on stellar evolution and accretion processes. He has mentored numerous graduate students and postdoctoral researchers in theoretical astrophysics.
