Elijah Greenstein is a Sessional Lecturer in Japanese at the Department of Asian Studies, Faculty of Arts, University of British Columbia. He is a historian of modern Japan and East Asia, with a focus on maritime, spatial, and transportation history, particularly examining Japanese ships in the global shipping industry from the late 19th to mid-20th century.

His research is supported by the U.S. Fulbright Program and the Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies. He also contributes to Japanese education and Asian diaspora studies through teaching and publications.
