Eliana Duarte

Eliana Duarte is an Assistant Professor of Probability and Statistics at the Department of Mathematics, University of Porto, a position she has held since May 2023. Prior to this, she led the Research Group in Algebraic Statistics at the Max-Planck-Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences in Leipzig, supported by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia. Her academic work bridges advanced algebraic techniques with statistical theory and applications.

Her research focuses on the application of algebraic geometry, commutative algebra, and combinatorics to solve problems in statistics, particularly in the areas of discrete statistical models, staged trees, and context-specific independence.
