Elham Amini is a Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Liverpool's School of Law and Social Justice, part of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. She holds a PhD in Sociology of Health and Gender from Durham University (2017), an MSc in Sociology and Social Research Methods (Durham), an MA in Women’s Studies (Alzahra University), and a BSc in Midwifery (Tehran Medical University).
Her research focuses on gendered and sexual experiences of Iranian Muslim menopausal women, exploring themes like medicalization, body narratives, aging, and cultural frameworks. She employs biographical and life history methods to analyze intersections of gender, health, and societal norms. Current research includes a Medical Research Council-funded project (2023-2026) on menopause and healthcare provision for minority ethnic women.
Teaching responsibilities include modules on emotions in society, social policy, interviewing methods, and dissertation supervision. She contributes to the Centre for Ageing and the Life Course research group, advancing interdisciplinary aging studies.
