Eleonory Gilburd

Eleonory Gilburd is Associate Professor of History at the University of Chicago, specializing in modern Russian and Soviet history with focus on cultural exchange, translation, and everyday life during the Cold War era. Her award-winning book 'To See Paris and Die' examines the Soviet reception of Western culture during the Thaw period (1950s-1960s).

Current research includes two major projects: 'Weary Sun' explores tango culture in Stalinist Russia and Eastern Europe, examining musical exchange across political boundaries. 'The Entangled Histories of Soviet Newspeak' investigates the relationship between Soviet political language and everyday Russian throughout the 20th century.

Her scholarship has been recognized with multiple prestigious awards including the Laura Shannon Prize, Vucinich Book Prize, and Shulman Book Prize.
