Eleonora Sfrappini

Eleonora Sfrappini is a Lecturer in Finance at the University of St Andrews Business School and a member of the Centre for Responsible Banking and Finance. She earned her Doctor of Social Science (PhD) from Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg, with research conducted in collaboration with the Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH).

Her research focuses on banking, climate finance, and financial regulation, with two core areas of inquiry. First, she investigates how climate transition risks influence credit allocation and borrower adaptation to funding changes. Second, she analyzes the impact of financial regulation on banks’ funding costs and lending behavior. Her work often employs difference-in-differences methodologies and examines banking unions, capital requirements, and regulatory frameworks.

The most recent articles highlight her contributions to understanding how EU banks adapt to CRD IV regulations, the financial stability implications of capital markets reforms, and the interplay between climate-related regulatory risks and bank lending patterns. Her work frequently intersects with themes like sustainable finance, credit markets, and policy evaluation.
