Leibniz Institute for Astrophysics PotsdamAbout
Elena Sacchi is a scientific researcher at the Leibniz-Institut für Astrophysik Potsdam (AIP), where she currently works in the Supercomputing and E-Science group since January 2024. Previously, she was a postdoctoral researcher in the Milky Way and Local Volume group from November 2020 to October 2023. She has also held research positions at the Space Telescope Science Institute and participated in international programs including the Marco Polo program and Erasmus program.
Her research focuses on galaxy formation and evolution, particularly through the analysis of resolved stellar populations in dwarf galaxies and the Local Volume. She specializes in star formation histories, utilizing data from space telescopes like HST and JWST. Her work often involves computational astrophysics, data infrastructure development, and workflow engines such as REANA for the PUNCH4NFDI software project.
Her recent publications demonstrate expertise across multiple areas of extragalactic astrophysics, with particular emphasis on dwarf galaxy systems, stellar populations, and galaxy interactions. Her research combines observational data from HST and JWST with computational methods to understand galaxy evolution at various scales, from individual star clusters to galaxy group dynamics. She is an active participant in major collaborations including LEGUS, HSTPROMO, YMCA, and the SSH survey.
Sacchi completed her PhD in Astrophysics at Bologna University (2014-2018) with a thesis on star formation histories in the nearby Universe using HST legacy data. She also holds a Master's degree (2012-2014) and Bachelor's degree (2009-2012) in astronomy/astrophysics from the same institution, consistently achieving top marks (110/110).
