Elena Nezhdanova is a Lecturer in Music (piano) at Hamilton College and a staff pianist at Colgate University. A celebrated concert pianist and dedicated educator, she has performed across the U.S., China, and Europe, debuting at age eight in Russia. Her work includes solo and chamber performances, new music advocacy, and extensive pedagogical outreach.

Research & Artistic Focus:
Elena’s research and performance interests center on piano performance, chamber music, and piano pedagogy. She is a passionate advocate for contemporary music and has collaborated with living composers, including commissioning a new sonata from Peter Learn. Her upcoming lecture recital on Lera Auerbach’s 24 Preludes Op. 41 highlights her commitment to expanding the modern piano repertoire.
Awards & Recognition:
In 2021, her chamber ensemble Nezhdanova-Placzek Duo received the Gold and Best Chamber Ensemble Award at the 3rd World Piano Teachers Association – Singapore International Piano Competition.
Teaching & Outreach:
Elena teaches at Hamilton College, Colgate University, and Opus Ithaca School of Music, and maintains a private studio in Manlius, NY. She has led masterclasses and workshops across the U.S. and internationally, including in Portugal, the Czech Republic, and the UK.
Ensembles & Leadership:
She co-founded the Nezhdanova-Placzek Duo and serves as the President of the USA NY-State Chapter of the World Piano Teachers Association (WPTA).
