Elena Davitti is an Associate Professor in Translation Studies at the University of Surrey, specializing in hybrid interpreting modalities, interlingual respeaking, and real-time speech-to-text transfer. She leads the MA Interpreting (Multilingual pathway) and MA Translation and Interpreting programs. With a PhD from the University of Manchester and an MA from the University of Bologna, her research focuses on technology-enabled multilingual communication, including video-mediated interpreting and AI applications in translation.
Her current projects include the SMART initiative, exploring multilingual access through respeaking technology. She has prior experience as a freelance interpreter, translator, and trainer at institutions like the University of Leeds and UNINT, Rome.
Research interests emphasize cognitive and interpersonal factors in human-AI collaboration, ASR tools for subtitling, and remote medical interpreting. She supervises PhD candidates studying interpreting technologies and hybrid modalities.
