Dr Elena Bochukova is a Senior Lecturer in Genomics at the Centre for Genomics and Child Health, Blizard Institute, Queen Mary University of London. She leads research on RNA-mediated and chromatin-mediated mechanisms in metabolic diseases, particularly obesity, using functional genomics and genome-edited stem cell models.
Her research focuses on:
- Non-protein-coding genetic variation in metabolic disease
- Epigenetic regulation of gene expression
- Functional characterization of obesity-associated variants
- Stem cell modeling of genetic disorders
She contributes to teaching at both undergraduate (MBBS, Intercalated BSc in Experimental Pathology, BSc in Biomedical Sciences) and postgraduate levels (MSc in Regenerative Medicine). Her work is funded by Barts Charity, the Royal Society, and the Wellcome Trust.
