Eleanor Bell

Eleanor Bell is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Humanities at the University of Strathclyde, serving as Postgraduate Research Director. Her academic journey began with a PhD in Ethics and Scottish Literary Postmodernism from the University of Dundee (2001) and includes prior roles as a Leverhulme Post-doctoral Research Fellow (2001-2004). She specializes in 20th-century Scottish literature, focusing on literary magazines, political culture, and national identity. Key projects include a monograph on Scottish literary magazines (1950–2000) and initiatives like the Archie Hind Archive to commemorate Glasgow writer Archie Hind's centenary (2028).

Her research has been supported by grants such as the Royal Society of Edinburgh's 'Little Magazine Culture in Scotland, 1960–1990' (2018–2019). She co-edited influential texts like The International Writers' Conference Revisited: Edinburgh, 1962 (2012) and founded the International Journal of Scottish Literature (2006–2010). Teaching includes modules on Sixties Britain’s literature and culture, and she coordinates placement programs for English & Creative Writing students.

Awarded Strathclyde’s Teaching Excellence Award twice (2010, 2013), Bell is affiliated with the Scottish Oral History Centre and supervises PhD projects on diverse Scottish literary topics. She serves as an external examiner for the University of Aberdeen and National University of Ireland, while actively participating in conferences and workshops on Scottish literary studies.
