Ektoras Arkomanis is a Senior Lecturer in architectural history and theory at the School of Art, Architecture and Design, London Metropolitan University. He coordinates the Critical and Contextual Studies module for undergraduate Architecture students and leads practice-based research in spatial observation and film. His work examines urban peripheries and marginalized histories through cinematic exploration.
Research interests include documenting overlooked spaces like refugee camps (Eleonas, Athens), urban margins, and the interplay between architecture and film. He explores how film can preserve narratives of places and peoples excluded from mainstream historical records. His films address themes of displacement, preservation, and the inadequacy of visual media in capturing absence.
Notable works include Passage Variations (2019), a film on Eleonas refugee camp, and essays such as Letter to a young architect (2020). He edited Migrations in New Cinema (2020) and contributed to LUX’s analysis of Maeve Brennan’s films. Current projects include a long-term film/research project on Eleonas and investigations into spatial narratives in marginalized areas.
