About
Professor Eileen Yu is a Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Southampton's School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. She holds a Chair in Chemical Engineering and has held academic positions at Newcastle University and Loughborough University. Her research focuses on electrochemical and bioelectrochemical systems for energy, environmental, and biomedical applications, including CO2 utilization, wastewater treatment, biosensors, and nanomaterials. She has secured over £20 million in research funding and leads interdisciplinary projects such as the UK-Japan collaboration on artificial photosynthetic systems.
Prof. Yu's career includes a PhD from Newcastle University on direct methanol alkaline fuel cells, followed by a research fellowship at the Max Planck Institute in Germany. She later returned to Newcastle as an EPSRC Research Fellow in Life Science Interface, expanding her work into biosciences. Her current research emphasizes electrocatalysis, microbial electrosynthesis, and sustainable energy systems.
Her roles include Editor-in-Chief of Fuel Cells and Associate Editor for Frontiers in Energy Research and Biosensors. She also serves on the SCI Electrochemical Engineering Group's committee.
Prof. Yu's lab develops advanced materials and systems for energy storage, environmental remediation, and biomedical diagnostics, with applications in wearable sensors and renewable energy conversion.
