Dr. Efthymios Papastavridis is a Part-Time Lecturer in Public International Law at the University of Thrace and a Research Fellow at the Academy of Athens since 2009. He also holds a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Athens, Faculty of Law. Additionally, he serves as a Visiting Fellow at the Refugee Law Initiative, School of Advanced Study, University of London. His research focuses on forced migration through the Mediterranean Sea, State Responsibility, and transnational organized crime at sea. He has taught at University College London, Westminster University, and the University of Athens. His expertise includes consultancy roles with the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime.
From 2012, he directed the Centre for Research Studies at the Hague Academy of International Law (English-speaking section). His work bridges international law, maritime law, and migration policy, emphasizing state accountability in border governance.
