Edwin Mercado

Edwin Mercado, MD, MHA, is a Research Fellow in Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School. He holds a medical degree from the University of the Philippines College of Medicine and completed orthopedic training at Philippine General Hospital, where he served as chief resident. He also earned a Master’s in Healthcare Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Master of Medical Science in Global Health Delivery from Harvard.

His research focuses on health economics, delivery models for the Philippine Universal Healthcare Law, and Private Public Partnerships (PPP) in primary care. He collaborates with the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) and local governments to study universal healthcare financial systems and stakeholder engagement. His work evaluates the implementation of UHC rules among providers, payers, and regulators.
