Edwin Griff is a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Cincinnati, College of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on understanding the physiological mechanisms of sensation, particularly olfaction. He investigates how odorants stimulate olfactory receptor neurons and how these signals are processed in the olfactory bulb. His lab uses electrophysiological techniques to study mitral cell responses and neural circuits in the olfactory system.
Education: PhD in Biology from Purdue University (1979), BA in Biology from Brandeis University (1970). His research spans olfactory bulb organization, spontaneous neural activity, and the effects of centrifugal inputs. He also contributed to visual system studies, examining interactions between rod photoreceptors and the retinal pigment epithelium.
Grants include the University Research Council grant (2011) and NIH grant (2002–2005) on mitral cell activity. He has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications and co-edited textbooks like PhysioEx 9.0. He serves on departmental and university committees, including roles in undergraduate research and curriculum development.
