Edward Reno is Associate Professor and Chair of the History Department in the College of Arts and Sciences at Adelphi University. He holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University (2011) and a B.A. from the University of Chicago (1998). His academic work centers on medieval Europe, with deep specialization in legal and ecclesiastical history.

His research interests include Medieval Canon Law, History of Christianity, Legal History, Codicology and Paleography, and the Crusades. He explores how legal systems evolved in the medieval Church, particularly through manuscript analysis and editorial traditions.
His recent publications analyze the Liber extra of Gregory IX, anonymous commentaries on canon law, and the use of monastic incarceration in 13th-century jurisprudence. These works reflect a strong focus on the intersection of legal authority, religious discipline, and textual transmission in medieval Europe.
He has received a Faculty Development Grant from Adelphi University in 2013. He actively contributes to the academic community through conference presentations, including organizing sessions and presenting papers at the International Congress on Medieval Studies.

Edward Reno advises students and teaches a range of courses including Western Civilization I, the Trial of Galileo, and Senior Seminar in European History. He is engaged in ongoing research on medieval manuscripts and the history of legal thought. His work is published in leading journals such as Traditio and Bulletin of Medieval Canon Law.
He is involved in digital scholarship through his project Digital Decretals, which supports access to and analysis of canonical legal texts.
