Edward Fergus is a Professor in the Departments of Urban Education and Africana Studies at Rutgers University - Newark. Prior to this role, he served as an Associate Professor at Temple University and an Assistant Professor at New York University. His work focuses on the intersection of educational policy and outcomes, particularly addressing the academic and social engagement of Black and Latino boys, disparities in special education, and school climate improvement.

Dr. Fergus has collaborated with over 120 school districts since 2004, working with state education departments in California, Maryland, Connecticut, North Carolina, and Texas. He serves on boards including the NY State Governor’s Juvenile Justice Advisory Group and the National Center on Learning Disabilities, and has consulted for the U.S. Department of Justice, New York State Attorney General’s Office, and NAACP Legal Defense Fund.
