Edoardo Traversa

Edoardo Traversa is Full Professor of Tax Law and European Law at UCLouvain's Faculty of Law and Criminology, where he has served as Dean since 2023. He holds visiting professorships at KU Leuven, WU Wien, University of Luxembourg, and University of Oxford. As a practicing lawyer at the Brussels Bar (Arteo), he bridges academia and legal practice. Traversa is a member of the EU VAT Expert Group and Belgium's High Council of Finance, influencing European tax policy development.

His research examines:

• European tax integration and international taxation frameworks
• Fiscal federalism and financial distribution mechanisms
• Environmental taxation and climate policy instruments
• Intersections between taxation, public policy, and economic regulation

He coordinates research networks including the European Academic Network of VAT (EANOVAT) and participates in the Global Tax Symposium.

Recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on EU fiscal architecture, including innovative financing mechanisms like the Next Generation EU instrument, corporate tax reform in global contexts, VAT fraud prevention, and environmental taxation solutions. His scholarship consistently addresses legal challenges in cross-border taxation while advocating for coherent EU-wide fiscal policies.
