About
Edisa Weeks serves as Associate Professor of Dance and Acting Chair of the Department of Drama, Theatre and Dance at Queens College. A Brooklyn-based choreographer, educator, and curator, she founded DELIRIOUS Dances to create intimate environments merging theater with dance that explore human experiences of desire, fear, and dreams.
Her educational background includes a BA from Brown University and an MFA in choreography from New York University's TISCH School of the Arts, earned with a full fellowship.
Weeks' research integrates Dance and Theater with urgent social inquiry, focusing on Social Justice and Community Engagement. Her work interrogates American ideals through projects like 3 RITES: Life, Liberty, Happiness (premiering Fall 2023) and ACTION SONGS/PROTEST DANCES (2022), which examine civil rights history and bodily manifestations of freedom.
Her honors include:
- Bessie Award (2016) for performance in The Skeleton Architecture
As an educator, Weeks mentors emerging artists across institutions including Alvin Ailey School, MIT, and Princeton University while teaching modern technique, improvisation, and collaborative processes. She actively serves on Movement Research's Board of Directors, the New York State Council on the Arts panel, and previously on the Bessie Committee (2014-2018), demonstrating deep commitment to equitable artistic ecosystems and societal transformation through performance.
