Edelgard Wulfert

Edelgard Wulfert is a Distinguished Service Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University at Albany, State University of New York, within the College of Arts and Sciences, and is affiliated with the Psychological Services Center.

Her research centers on deficits in self-regulation within addictive behaviors, with primary focus on pathological gambling and alcohol abuse. She conducts dual-track investigations: basic research examining physiological arousal, cue reactivity, stress responses, and cognitive distortions in addiction mechanisms; and applied research developing assessment protocols and treatment interventions. Current work prioritizes pathological gambling as a substance-free model for studying pure addictive processes, including the development and efficacy testing of a novel Cognitive-Motivational Behavior Therapy targeting treatment retention and relapse prevention.
