About
Eddy Yang is a Professor of Radiation Oncology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Medicine with joint appointments in Cell, Developmental and Integrative Biology and Pharmacology and Toxicology. He holds a dual MD and PhD in Molecular Pharmacology from the University of Miami and completed his residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
- MD, Medicine - University of Miami (2005)
- PhD, Molecular Pharmacology - University of Miami (2005)
- Residency - Vanderbilt University Medical Center
- Internship - Mount Sinai Hospital
Dr. Yang's research focuses on targeting DNA repair pathways to enhance the therapeutic ratio in cancer treatment. His laboratory aims to discover novel strategies to augment DNA repair pathways to specifically protect normal cells from DNA damage while reducing DNA repair capacity in cancer cells to make them more susceptible to DNA damaging agents. His work spans radiation oncology, molecular pharmacology, and translational medicine with emphasis on precision oncology approaches.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on combination therapies, biomarker-driven treatment approaches, and innovative radiation techniques. His work includes clinical trials evaluating targeted therapies in specific molecular subsets of cancer, development of novel radiation delivery methods, and predictive biomarker development for immunotherapy response.
- Multiple NIH/NCI-funded grants including mechanism-based combination therapy for cholangiocarcinoma
- Principal investigator on numerous industry-sponsored clinical trials
- Active in the Targeted Agent and Profiling Utilization Registry (TAPUR) study
Dr. Yang has served as committee member or chair for numerous graduate students across multiple departments at UAB, demonstrating his commitment to mentoring the next generation of researchers. He has also held leadership positions including Vice Chairperson of Radiation Oncology and Associate Director of GIM-Precision Medicine.
