Ebrahim Afsah is Associate Professor of Public International Law at the Centre for European, Comparative, and Constitutional Legal Studies, Faculty of Law, University of Copenhagen. He previously served as University Professor of Islamic Law at the University of Vienna (2018-2022) and holds visiting positions at the University of Western Brittany. His academic background includes training at the School of Oriental and African Studies (London), Trinity College Dublin, Harvard Kennedy School, and Max Planck Institute for International Law.
Research interests focus on regulatory systems in dysfunctional settings, particularly:
- Public international law & armed conflict jurisprudence
- Islamic legal systems and their interaction with European frameworks
- Constitutional/administrative law in post-conflict societies
- State-building challenges and institutional reform
- Migration law and security policy
Recent publications analyze Islamic constitutionalism, migration governance, and technology/security intersections, reflecting sustained engagement with legal adaptation in transitional societies. Teaching spans comparative law, Islamic jurisprudence, conflict management, and EU legal frameworks across bachelor, master and doctoral levels.
